Kelowna’s tallest commercial office tower was topped off Wednesday morning during a ceremony.
Landmark 7 stands tall at just under 300 feet, or 23 stories. Once it opens in May 2022, the structure will be home to offices, retail stores, a fitness facility, a community events centre and the largest parkade in the Okanagan.
There are six other Landmark buildings right now that are running at full occupancy. But with many people working from home due to COVID, that slowed down the leasing process of the new building until recently.
“We have about 16 different business sectors, 235 tenants in our existing buildings, and COVID certainly slowed the leasing of our new tower, however that activity is really brisk right now as we we’re down to our last year and people are planning as we’re coming to the end of COVID,” said commercial leasing and marketing manager of the Stober Group, Dallas Gray.
Gray said construction has been very smooth, as the building is going up right on time. The tower will be the tallest office tower between Vancouver and Calgary.
The tenants of Landmark 7’s highest floor, floor 23, will be Wellington-Altus Private Wealth. The company moved to Kelowna in September and are leasing a space in Landmark 3 until their new space is ready next year.
Darren Morcom, the company's vice president and portfolio manager, says there’s a lot to like about Kelowna.
“Kelowna is fast becoming one of the great wealth-growing stories in Canada. There's so many people that want to call Kelowna home and I think the Covid situation has accelerated that. People see Kelowna as such a desirable community and they want to be here. That creates a lot of wealth moving into the community, and that's where our company comes in,” said Morcom, adding the new office on Landmark 7 is an amazing space and they look forward to moving in.
The first Landmark building was completed in 1996.
